BSA Troop 474

There will be a bike ride from our Cycling merit badge counselor Mr. Town’s estate to Hammonasset State Park and back again.  This is a total of 25 miles. (Details below).  This distance sounds far, but it is definitely do-able if you are an 11 year old (or older) moderately experienced recreational bike rider.  The pace will be moderate, no one will trying to race.  Road safety will be reviewed prior to departure.  Parents are also welcome.

 

This is also a great opportunity to start Cycling Merit Badge.  A 25 mile ride is one of the requirements for the badge.

 

Where to meet: 37 Hopmeadow Circle (Town’s House)

Where to:  Hammonasset Beach State Park and back again

Distance:  25 miles

Time: meet at 8:30 and leave by 8:45 – should return around lunchtime

 

What to bring

Full water bottle ~1 liter
Helmet (no helmet/no go)

Spare tube or patch kit

Tire change tools if you have ‘em

1^st aid kit if you have

Pumped up tires – hybrid and other non-road bikes – pump tires to higher recommended pressure for road use

Dress in layers
