Bear Mountain Ct backpacking trip 2010

Participants: Mrs. Clark, Mrs. McMahon, Mrs. Jagielski, Mr. Slattery, Alex Jagielski, David Slattery, Morgan McMahon, Ben Weidman, Zach Clark, and Eric Weidman

We hiked on the Appalachian Trail from Plateau Campsite and ended at the trailhead for Undermountain Trail. We camped at Brassie Brook campsite. On the way to the campsite we stopped at a really cool stream that went through a rock and dunked our heads and hung out for a couple minutes. Then we went on for a while but then ate lunch at Lion's Head which had an amazing view. We finally reached the campsite, about 4 miles from the parking lot. We set up camp and went to a stream to filter water. Once there, we decided to come back later and sit in the water for a while. After hanging the bear bag, we went to sit in the water. There were mini water falls everywhere, and we had a lot of fun. When we were numb enough, we went to change and then peaked Bear Mountain. Along the way we met a few thru hikers, one who had a nice dog named George.  Once we were satisfied with the gorgeous view, we went back to camp and had dinner. Mac 'n' cheese with precooked ham and broccoli was gross. But Ben, Zach, Morgan, and I made a bet with Alex and David that we would eat all three packs of Velveeta Mac 'n' cheese and the other gross stuff we put in it. We won! Filled to the brim with food, we went to bed.  When we woke up in the morning, we packed up and then had breakfast- oatmeal.  It was much better than dinner had been.  On our  way out, we took the Appalachian Trail to an interjunction and then walked out on the Undermountain Trail.  The overall hike was amazing!!  The hike out was a little less than 2 miles.

Trip Classification: Intermediate  Go on at least on trip before this one.

Time from Guilford: 2 hours by car to trailhead.

Tips:
  • Don't forget to shuttle the cars
  • next time peak the mountain to see the sunrise
  • Don't have Mac 'n' cheese with ham and broccoli for dinner
  • bring more people
